Partners

DDP has 15 years’ experience of partnerships with disabled peoples' organisations, rehabilitation centres, national and international NGOs and agencies, building programmes in the Indian subcontinent and Africa.

Our main objective is to help partners to deliver programmes and initiatives that benefit disabled people. Programmes developed jointly are then implemented by local partners.

DDP does not have offices or staff in any of the countries in which we work. This saves money, gives us great operational flexibility and allows us to channel more into building partners’ organisational capacity and (new) programme partnerships. In this way we continue to learn and maintain DDP as an effective organisation.

DDP and partners work together to research needs, and develop proposals to raise funds and resources. Many of DDP’s partnerships began with organisations which were newly established, such as Mobility India or keen to expand into a new role, e.g. LARDEF. We have also partnered large, well established national organisations such as the Mozambique Red Cross Society and BRAC in Bangladesh.

Where possible we network partners, to meet and share expertise, resources and knowledge. For example, Mobility India technicians provided the technical expertise to set up COJ, a rehabilitation centre in Mozambique and LARDEF representatives from Angola helped us to facilitate a reconciliation workshop for ADEMO, the national association of disabled people in Mozambique and also advised on and observed their 2005 General Assembly.
